Keeping up with the Flyers: Wayne Simmonds
The next Flyer that I checked up on is Right winger, Wayne Simmonds. After a breakout season last year in Philadelphia, one where Wayne scored 28 goals, 21 assists, for 49 points. He decided this season during the lockout to go over-seas and play hockey in Germany for the Crimmitschaue ETC of the 2.Bundesliga. From what I understand, it is the second highest level of pro hockey in Germany, right behind the DEL.
Christ Stewart, of the St. Louis Blues, who grew up good friends with Simmonds, also went over to play with him in Germany. According to WWW.HockeyDB.Com, Wayne has scored 1 goal and 6 assists in his first 5 games. He also has amassed 31 penalty minutes.Just the other night he dropped the gloves with Ralf Rinke. Simmonds got the best of Rinke in their tilt.
(Below is a picture that Rinke posted of his eye the follwoing day)
It sounds like Simmonds is having a fun time playing in Germany with his buddy, and is putting up solid numbers. As a Flyers fan, all we can hope for is that he doesn’t get injured while playing over-seas.
